Palm Beach County's prettiest night of the year is coming back. ILUMINA: A Tropical Garden Lantern Festival returns to Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach on select nights from Wednesday, November 18, 2026 through Sunday, January 17, 2027 — more than 500 handcrafted silk lanterns glowing through 20 acres of tropical garden, and a 195-foot dragon rising out of the lake.
Tickets went on sale today, Tuesday, October 27, 2026 — and the prime December nights are always the first to go. If you're hunting for a romantic holiday-season date that isn't another dinner reservation, this is the one to book now and thank yourself for in December.
What you'll walk through

As night falls, the garden becomes a glowing trail of illuminated worlds: towering chameleons, radiant flamingos, shimmering butterflies, and luminous orchids, every lantern handmade by artisans blending centuries-old lantern traditions with contemporary design. Themed photo stops are built into the route — this is an event designed to be captured, and couples do.
The centerpiece stops everyone: a 195-foot dragon stretched across the Garden's lake, doubling itself in the reflection. Around the trail you'll also find festive food and artisan crafts, and the organizers are adding holiday choir nights and lion dances this season — extra energy on select evenings, one more reason to pick your night deliberately rather than defaulting to a Saturday.
Tickets, times, and the honest pricing note
Entry is by timed session: sessions start at 5:30 PM (the official ticket page lists opening hours of 5:30–8:30 PM), you choose your session in the ticket selector when you book, and most visitors take 60–90 minutes to walk the full trail. Tickets are sold through the official ILUMINA ticket page, powered by Fever — there's also a box office on site, but walk-up sales are only while a session lasts, so book ahead.
On pricing, here's exactly what we can stand behind at launch: children under 5 are free, Mounts members get member pricing, and groups of 10 or more save 20%. Mounts hadn't posted this season's full adult price table on the ticket page at launch, so for a ballpark only: last season's general admission was $26 for adults and $10 for ages 2–17 (members $16 / $2). Check the official ticket page for this season's posted prices before you budget the night — we'd rather tell you that than print a number we haven't verified.
Two booking details worth knowing: tickets can be transferred to another person free through the Fever app, and date changes are allowed up to 48 hours in advance — handy if your December calendar is still moving. There are no refunds, so pick your night like you mean it.
Date-night tips
Take the earliest session. A 5:30 PM entry catches the lanterns against the last of the dusk — the best light of the night for photos of the two of you, not just the displays — and leaves time for a late dinner in West Palm Beach afterward.
Weeknights beat Saturdays. It's a walk-at-your-own-pace trail, and a Wednesday or Thursday in early December is the calm, unhurried version of it. The festival runs select nights across two months, so you have real choice — use it.
Sip while you stroll. Cocktails, beer, and wine are sold on site, along with festive food and holiday treats, so the walk can be the whole date rather than a pre-dinner errand.
The dragon shot is the one. Personal photos are encouraged throughout (tripods and professional gear aren't permitted). Get the dragon and its lake reflection early in the walk, before the trail crowds bunch up around it.
Dress for an outdoor night. ILUMINA is fully outdoors and runs rain or shine; a light jacket earns its keep on January nights. If severe weather ever forces a cancellation, ticket holders are notified by email.
Getting there
Mounts Botanical Garden, 531 N. Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33415 — between Southern Boulevard and Belvedere Road. It's Palm Beach County's oldest and largest public garden, and parking is free on site, a small miracle for a holiday-season event. The venue is ADA-compliant, restrooms are on site, and the garden's gift shop stays part of the evening. More Palm Beach and tri-county picks through the season are on our events calendar.
