Your Weekend Date-Night Playbook (October 30–November 1)

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and South Florida is treating it like a three-day holiday: an orchestra plays Ghostbusters live downtown, Calle Ocho throws its monthly block party, couples in costume take over Lincoln Road, and Sunday slows down with taiko drums in a Japanese garden and jazz on the Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk. Costumes optional everywhere. A plan is not.

Every pick below was checked on October 29, 2026 — real event, real venue, real start time — and every one passes our one test: we can picture the two of you there. Lock the ticketed rooms in early; Halloween weekend seats move.

Friday, October 30

Ghostbusters in Concert — 8 PM, Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center, 1300 Biscayne Blvd, Miami. Ticket prices vary by seat. The 1984 classic on the big screen while a full orchestra plays Elmer Bernstein's score live underneath it — every ghost chase lands bigger, and you'll both be humming the theme on the walk back to the car. Dinner downtown first, costumes welcome. Get tickets.

Viernes Culturales (Cultural Fridays) — from 3 PM, Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street), Little Havana, Miami. Free. The last Friday of the month turns Calle Ocho into an open-air block party: live bands in Domino Park, galleries open late, artisans along the sidewalk, and a free 7 PM walking tour with historian Dr. Paul George from the Tower Theater. Graze on cafecitos and empanadas, dance when the band pulls you in, spend only on what you eat and drink. Event details.

Jazz at MOCA: The Mike Gerber Quartet — seating 7 PM, music 8 PM, MOCA Plaza, Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami. Free. South Florida's longest-running free outdoor jazz series closes October under the night sky, and the museum galleries stay open until 10 PM on a pay-as-you-wish basis. Bring your own chairs for the best spots, hear the quartet, then wander the art together after dark. Event details.

HULAWEEN at the Mai-Kai — 7 PM–midnight, The Mai-Kai, 3599 N Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale. The tiki temple's 14th annual costume party takes over the Bora Bora and Molokai bars with live music from Slip and the Spinouts, limited-time Hulaween cocktails in custom mugs, and a costume contest at 10 PM (sign up by 8). Tropical and spooky at the same time — there is no other Halloween date in Broward like it. Event details.

Saturday, October 31

Red Bull Flugtag Miami — 11 AM–4 PM, Bayfront Park, 301 Biscayne Blvd, Miami. Free. Flugtag returns to Miami for the first time in over a decade: 30 teams launch homemade, human-powered flying machines off a 30-foot deck into Biscayne Bay, judged on distance, creativity, and showmanship. The funniest free daytime date of the weekend — lunch downtown after, before the night shift. Event details.

Día de los Muertos // Day of the Dead — Coral Gables — 4–9 PM, Ponce Circle Park, 2810 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables. Free. The Consulate General of Mexico and the City of Coral Gables fill the park with traditional Mexican performances, live music and dance, and authentic food — altars, marigolds, and painted faces as the sun goes down. The Coral Gables Trolley runs until 10 PM, so park once and stay for dinner on Miracle Mile after. Event details.

Lincoln Road Halloween Block Party — 5 PM–2 AM, Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. Free. Miami Beach's famous Halloween night turns the promenade into a costume catwalk, with live music, performers, and DJs including the Wonderama Band, and 17-plus restaurants and bars running specials along the strip. Book an outdoor table, order something cold, and let the parade come to you — the people-watching is the show. Event details.

Haunted Havana Nights at W Fort Lauderdale — 8 PM–midnight, W Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Beach. $41.93. The glamorous end of Halloween: the hotel's Living Room turns old-Havana with live Cuban music, salsa dancers, hand-rolled cigars, and rum cocktails under the palms, ocean in front of you. Dress to intrigue, eat dinner on the beach first, then dance it off. Get tickets.

Sunday, November 1

Miami Japanese Garden Fall Festival — 10:30 AM–4 PM, Ichimura Miami-Japan Garden, Watson Island, Miami. Free. The calm after Saturday: taiko drumming, a sushi-making demonstration, a traditional tea ceremony, and a cosplay contest inside a serene garden of koi ponds, waterfalls, and stone lanterns. Admission is free and a few hands-on extras are ticketed and cash-only, so bring small bills and take the morning slow. Event details.

Sunday Jazz Brunch on the Riverwalk — 11 AM–2 PM, Esplanade Park, 400 SW 2nd St, Fort Lauderdale. Free. The first-Sunday jazz brunch returns with three stages along the New River — the Cosmo Jazz Trio, Davis and Dow, and Gold Coast Jazz. Bring a blanket and a picnic or buy from the vendors, and let brunch run long. No ticket needed. Event details.

CityPlace Doral Day of the Dead Celebration — 4–7 PM, Fountain Plaza, CityPlace Doral, Doral. Free. The fifth annual celebration brings folkloric dancers, stilt walkers, mariachis, and oversized calavera puppets in procession, plus an El Mercado vendor market and food sampling from CityPlace restaurants. The sugar-skull installations stay up through November 3 if you want a second look at dinner this week. Event details.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Día de los Muertos — 6–10 PM, Miami Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Ave, Miami Beach. $42, 18+. O Cinema's annual Rocky Horror screening gets the Día de los Muertos treatment: shadowcast The Faithful Handymen, drag queen TP Lords, a costume contest, a community altar, and free prop bags while they last. Fishnets meet flower crowns — do the Time Warp under the Bandshell and close the weekend loud. Get tickets.
